Bunyan Velo

The editor of popular cycling journal, Bunyan Velo, approached me after several writing and photography contributions wanting to solidify the Bunyan Velo name and mark in people’s minds. We looked at Bunyan Velo’s vision, audience, and influences and decided to embrace cartographic symbology—a hallmark of travel.  Sourcing old hand-drawn maps we found elements to incorporate and then created a custom hand drawn wordmark based off Bunyan’s existing loose identity. The resulting mark is graceful and rustic, elegant and simple. It creates a mood, yet lets the words do the speaking, just like Bunyan Velo itself.
